What Does a Complete Electric Car Drive System Solution Include?

When many car manufacturers conduct procurement discussions, they often ask the same question: What components make up a complete electric drive system? Clearly, vehicle driving cannot be achieved by a single component alone. In actual project development, whether it is the development of a new vehicle platform or the upgrading of an existing one, a complete drive system must integrate power supply, control, execution, thermal management, and safety functions in depth. All modules must work together to ensure that the vehicle runs smoothly, reliably, and efficiently.

 

Essential hardware

Any reliable electric drive solution hinges on the traction motor itself and the corresponding high-performance motor controller. The controller is responsible for precisely controlling torque, speed, and regenerative braking. A truly complete system also requires a battery pack, battery management system (BMS), converter, and vehicle control unit (VCU). The Importance of Control Algorithms

 To make the hardware a powerful, efficient and reliable power system, the key lies in whether the control of the motor drive systems are properly adjusted. For example, when accelerating or climbing, the controller must immediately adjust the switching frequency and phase current without any jitter or delay. If the control logic is not done properly, the vehicle will shake when carrying a load and will accelerate half a beat slower. This cannot be fixed just by calibration; the fundamental reason is that the control logic has not been tested thoroughly. Cables, connectors, cooling plates, and EMI shielding have to survive months of vibration, temperature swings, and dusty roads. Cheap controllers work fine in the laboratory, but they tend to malfunction when used in practice.
